Looking At The Woman In The Mirror…even if it’s in the comfort of my SUV.

By | Featured, What's New | No Comments

11078074_10204048778366571_2695199078652093815_n As I sat in my SUV looking into my rear view Mirror, I thought about a conversation with my accountability HBW Master Mind sisters Jamie and Odette, a few nights before.  My sisters and I are powerful and passionate in what we do and we believe in the power of supporting one another to make great things happen. Jamie Bennett is the CEO and Founder of Assistance For Hire, Odette Flemming is CEO and Founder of Kitabu Circle and I am the CEO of Empower2Produce and Founder of the Wrapped-N-Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Organization. We had engaged in conversation about building our businesses and what our next best move would be in taking our businesses to the next level. Now during these calls we pretty much call it like it is, there is no time for beating around the bush or sugarcoating anything.

I absolutely love these calls. We provoke thought, inspire, encourage, support and motivate one another, but what I like most is that we also give tough love, step on toes(figuratively speaking)  and we keep one another in check on building our businesses.

It was during this call and one other previous conversation with my sisters that I admittedly expressed being somewhat uncomfortable with my role in my two businesses, one which is my foundation which is close and dear to my heart (breast cancer awareness) and the other which is built upon 25 plus years of work experience, education, skills and and the love of my profession (sales and training.)  Well, this is where some tough love kicked in from my sisters.  I was starting to doubt my WHY‘s, WHY I started these businesses, WHY I have the gifts to do what I do, WHY I have value in my offer and WHY I have taken the Quantum Leap to arrive and participate in a world of great possibilities and opportunities.

It didn’t take long during our conversation before one of my sisters said to me”you need to take a look in the Mirror and see you as others see you.”  What I realized during that call, was that fear was creeping into my progress. And surprisingly it was not the fear of failure. The fear which was attempting to steal my joy and my progress within building my businesses, was the fear of success. I found that I was not doubting myself or my capabilities, but whether or not I was truly ready to receive.  I was experiencing the what if’s of my life and my businesses. What if my business takes off and blow up? What if I am not ready to receive? What happens when the lifestyle that I live changes to the lifestyle that I have dreamed of all my life? Am I ready?  Because I know without a doubt that I am on the verge of my breakthrough.

As I sat in my SUV, I found myself taking my sisters advice and literally began to look into the Mirror, my rear view Mirror at that. What I found was the importance of stepping back and taking inventory of my life, my dreams and my future that awaits my presence.  When was the last time you took a good look at the person in your Mirror? Do you like what you see? Do see the person you want to be or do you see the person you aspire to be? Well Try it! What are you waiting for? Take a good look at yourself and allow yourself to see what may be holding you back in following your dreams or aspirations.

What I found was refreshing and it rejuvenated my mind, body and soul. I am working diligently on my businesses and I am investing in myself in ways that I have never done before! And the most important thing that I know is that according to Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord.  Plans to prosper you and not to harm you.  Plans to give you a HOPE and a FUTURE.” Yes, God has a plan for you and I to utilize our talents and skills which he has equipped us with, but if we allow fear, procrastination and doubt into our plans, it’s a chance that we will never reach our God given potential. We have to recognize our value and our worth in life and business.

Here are 5 Values I rediscovered of myself as I looked at the woman in my Mirror.

(1) I PLAN for my future which gives me a roadmap to reaching new milestones and  to identify my progress in life and business along the way.

(2) I SET GOALS so that I will have something to aim for.

(3) I MOTIVATE others through acknowledging their work, accomplishments and efforts.  I have the gift of complementing and praising others.

(4) I INSPIRE others, God has allowed me to overcome many hurdles in life to share with others, to give them hope and trust in the process.

(5) I LEAD by example which encourages me to do the right thing in life and business which builds upon my character.

(6) I EMPOWER others though tools, resources, mentoring, coaching and the ability to be transparent in sharing my life’s story to help others overcome, breakthrough and get back on track after life changing events.

These are important aspects of my life which has made me the person and business woman I am today.  I am determined to not allow doubt, fear of failure or fear of success block what my future holds for me.

I challenge you to take a look in your MIRROR and rediscover your true values.  What you find may reignite the fire within and remind you of your self value and self worth, when you are in doubt of executing your plans to reach your goals in life and/or business.

12 States in 12 Months-I Did That?

By | Featured, Fun Reads | No Comments

10425023_10203157697730112_130806735422821579_nLast March I made a commitment to visit 12 different states in 12 months, “Yes I did That.” Well, that wasn’t something I had planned or was even on my bucket list, but it was something I decided to do to relieve some of the stress in my life.  You see, about 2 years before that, I started a FB group, Healthy Lifestyle Changes…Eating Better-Moving More-Stressing Less.  This group was created to engage women to share tips and stories on how to create and live healthier lives.  I decided to share my personal journey with our community, to hold myself accountable and to allow the women that were having a hard time getting the weight off or keeping it off, see me tackle the battle and never give up.  I wanted to inspire and motivate them to keep at it even if they fell of course again and again.  We shared exercise tips, recipes and different ways to eliminate stress out of our lives.  When I started this group, I thought it was to help other women who were struggling to get off those pounds and regain their energy to live the life which they were meant to live.  But, boy! I didn’t realize what the group was going to do for me until, my grandmother passed away last March.

I decided to challenge myself on the Stress Less aspect of the group, I felt the need to do something drastic and something out of my comfort zone.  With my creative thoughts going to work, I began to wonder how it would feel to visit places all by myself for about a year.  Just me, myself and I.  No friends, no kids and no man, just me and my world of possibilities.  My visits could be a day trip, an over-nighter or even an exciting weekend getaway.  I would have the opportunity to meet new people, dine at different restaurants and just have some good ole fun.  I was committed and ready for the challenge. But, would this out of the blue idea turn out to be more than I had planned?

Low and behold, yes, my challenge turned into a therapeutic journey that allowed me to discover more of what I truly wanted out of life and how I would aim to get it. As I traveled to and from the different states I began to gain clarity on how I would create the ideal life I am meant to live.  Each state offered history, friendships and excitement.  I was even blessed to have left my book Wrapped-N-Pink in the hands of some awesome people within each state as they supported my writings and our WrappednPink Breast Cancer Awareness Organization.  Design your own 12 month challenge and then commit to it, you may be amazingly surprised of what is revealed.  What was revealed to me was my persistence, determination, motivation, inspiration and the ability to persevere even through my times of heart ache and pain of losing a loved one.

I feel blessed to have visited these 12 Beautiful States ( District of Columbia.) Here are the states and some highlights.
April——--Washington DC, I met Rosetta Thurman of The HBW Community, stayed at the Helix & visited the Congressional Black Caucus

May———Boston Massachusetts, I road the Acela Train 1st Class for a day trip, had delicious meals on train, met some really nice folks.

June———Atlanta Georgia, I went to a women’s conference, met some new sister friends, great food and a long train ride back to Jersey.

July———-Wilmington Delaware, I took a ride on the train for a day trip, there was a Reggae Festival going on, had lunch on the harbor.

August—–Chicago Illinois, Another nice long ride on the train, had fun with the corner drummers, watched live outdoor dance theater

September-Virginia Beach Virginia, I enjoyed the beautiful beach, did a little shopping, dinner at a great restaurant, photo and video shoot.

October——Manhattan New York, This was a nice day getaway, enjoyed dinning at a nice Chinese rest., shopping and conversing on train.

November—-Orlando Florida, A nice ride on the Auto Train, met some very interesting folk, a little shopping, nice dining.

December–Connecticut Foxwoods Resort, Enjoyed fine dining, comedy club, Bingo and some good relaxation.

January——Atlantic City New Jersey, After I did a little shopping and had a bite to eat, the rest of the day was reflecting on the beach.

February—-Providence Rhode Island, I was amazed of the beauty of this state, snow was everywhere, but I enjoyed a day trip and dinner.

March——-Philadelphia Pennsylvania, My last state did not disappoint me, a nice Mexican dinner, Hot Stone Massage and sightseeing.

Yes 12 states in 12 months…What challenge will you propose to yourself and will it take you out of your comfort zone?  If I can do it so can you!

Are You Your Best Kept Secret?

By | Business, Featured | One Comment

Have you ever felt as though you wanted to shout out to the world that one fabulous thing about yourself that no one else knew about? Is there a burning desire within your heart and soul, just bursting to ignite and be set free? Do you get goose bumps running down your back when you think about that one thing that makes your soul sing beautiful melodic tunes?  Maybe it’s singing, dancing, drawing, photography, speaking, writing, building a business, traveling the world, politics, teaching, volunteering for a cause, scuba diving, sky diving, modeling, ministering or maybe starting a beautiful family.  Does this resonate with you? Is there a chance that you may have a desire, a talent or special gift about yourself that you have kept secret for way to long because of fear or self doubt? Do you feel that maybe you are your little kept secret?

I believe there are many people that have that burning desire to accomplish something in life which they are very good at but are keeping it locked up inside for many different reasons.  Some people work toward that desire over time until it is ignited and set free to the world. I believe that I have been doing just that and my time has come to step out on faith and embrace my desire. It is my time to pull out my little kept secret and share it with the world.  For most of my life, I have been a dreamer in this world of opportunities.  Now, my dream has always been to own my own business and that was never a secret to anyone.  As a 6year old I knew that I wanted to be a businesswoman.  In my younger years, I learned my first lessons of sales as a Brownie and Girl Scout and I during holiday seasons I would have my little sisters, brothers and cousins audition for my Oscar winning plays.  I would set up a theater like setting and charge the parents to come and watch them perform.  Later as a young teen I would have my younger family members audition for my singing and dance groups that I put together.  I promised them that one day we would all be guests on the American Band Stand or Soul Train. Now that was just too funny.

As a young adult, I attempted many multilevel marketing businesses in search of the business owner that I wanted to be, but to no avail, my search left me unsatisfied and at times disappointed. Although, I was good in many of those side hustles, I was a master at none. But, I knew deep down inside there was this thing that made me feel great when I did it, I enjoyed it and it brought much gratification to my being. That thing was and is my ability to empower, inspire, motivate and engage others to excel in business. So you see, my little kept secret was not to own my own business, it was to utilize the gifts, talents and skills to own my own business. For over 23 years I have been great in sales and leadership for someone’s else business, but had kept those same talents, secret to my own needs. It wasn’t because of the fear of failure, but it was more of the fear of success.  I recognized my gifts, but the thought of reaching a higher level of success in my dreams were at times sabotaged because of my little kept secret, the realization of my self value and self worth.  Today, I am unwrapping that secret and will share it with the world in my amazing new business.

You don’t have to be your little kept secret any more, here are 3 things that can help you unwrap your little kept secret:

1) Dare to dream-if you feel a burning desire to follow and capture your dreams “Do It!”

2) Understand your self value and self worth-sometimes we go through life giving ourselves to others and loose focus on the value we bring to the table.

3) Tomorrow is promised to no one, so learn to live life while you live.

In Pursuit of a Little Black Girl’s Dream

By | Business, Featured, Fun Reads | No Comments

photo_0027As I wrapped up an amazing and Empowering weekend in Atlanta, I thought about all the beautiful African American women who had filled the conference rooms with the commitment and pursuit of living their ideal lives. The 3 day event left me excited, Empowered and motivated to continue my pursuit of my life long dreams.

On my way home, I had plenty of time to sit back on the train and reflect on all that had taken place over the past few days. There were relationships being built amongst the women, great food, dancing, business training and most of all, having the opportunity to embrace a community that was built for HBW (The Happy Black Woman Community.) This event had provoked my inner thoughts as to what had guided me over the years of my life to land in such a happy business building community with other like minded women. A community of black women helping and supporting one another as we each build our businesses with a strong and bold foundation.

As I dazed out the window, watching the trees blowing in dancing circular motions while the birds flew close to the heavens above, I thought of my mom, Momma Ruth (R.I.P.) My mother was far most the biggest fan I had in this game called life. It didn’t matter how many businesses I would start or what type of job I would work, she always made me feel as though I was the best person to take on the task. But, she didn’t just make me feel that way, she also made each one of my brothers, sisters and her grandchildren feel the same. I tell you, if there were ever a need of some good loving support, my momma was the one to give it to you. She would always say “Go for it, you can do it!” That was just the type of person she was, loving, caring and supportive.

I remember back in the 60’s when I was about 5 or 6 years old, my mom and I were watching a black and white movie or tv show and the men were all dressed in their nicely pressed business suits and carrying their brief cases in one hand and a newspaper in the other as they walked into 12 story buildings to begin their work day. The men looked important to me, they appeared to have had something special going on which separated them from the crowd. They were happy going into the buildings and at the end of the week they were smiling as they went into a bank and handed the worker a check (now knowing what the piece of paper was) and walked out with a handful of money. I questioned my mom about those men and she explained that they were businessmen, they worked for themselves and made lots of money.

I remembered being in aw and turned to my mom and said, “I want to be one of them and a teacher when I grow up so that I may become rich and take care of you, giving you anything you want!” Although, I don’t remember much more of that conversation with my mom, I remember that much of it, as though the conversation took place yesterday. The thought of owning my own for-profit business reaches back to when I was just about 5 or 6 years old and has not left me yet.

All through my life, I have traveled the roads of self and business discovery. It was and is in my blood to own my own for-profit business, it is in my blood to live my ideal life and to reach out and Empower my family and others who may be struggling in the pursuit of their dreams, As I went from working labored jobs, to jobs most people would not even apply for, to earning a earnest and sometimes decent living in the world of customer service and sales, I unknowingly landed in the field of which God had prepared for me. Some may call it sales, but I just call it a prime-time producer. As I think about it and take it all in, it has been without a doubt that in the majority of my business and job opportunities, I have always been a top producer. I have been a sales manager as well as the salesperson and no matter which end I have served, management has always said, “they wished there were a hundred of me on their team.”

Over the years, the thought has crossed my mind as to what if I could produce a hundred or even thousands of like minded sales leaders or sales people like myself for businesses that were struggling to bring in revenue and clients for their business. What if I could Empower, Inspire and Engage sales leaders/managers to Empower, Inspire and Engage their sales teams to become top producing agents and regain the passion which they once had for their careers? With my sales skills, experience and education, I know that I can Empower sales managers/sales people to become and thrive as top producers within their organizations. Using my experience of over 27 years + in sales, customer service and sales management, with proven results of being a top producer has helped me capture the essence of taking my dream to reality.

Here are 3 things are very important to being a Top Producer:

1) Empowering others/self with tools and resources to grow and prosper.
2) Inspiring others through your story, showing them that they also have the resilience for a comeback.
3) Engaging others to participate and communicate within the business which they belong.

I am blessed to have discovered my way into my own world of opportunities and possibilities. I am committed to taking action to build an empire and a legacy for my family. I will never give up and I will always stay determined, persistent and faithful to the path which God has prepared for me. I will not allow the fear of failure nor the fear of success hinder my blessings of building my business which will someday allow me to reach out and Empower others through my journey.

The thought of owning my own business reaches back to when I was just about 5 or 6 years old and it has not left me yet. I am eager and open to my world of possibilities and I will never quit pursuing and capturing that dream of a Little Black Girl.

There are many challenges to starting your own business, yet the end results will be worth the sacrifices and sweat. I am beginning the journey of training to launch my business within the next 2-3 months and I could use your support. You can help me by donating today, no amount is too small or too large. I thank you with all of my heart.

It was just a little, itty, bitty, lump, bump or some type of thing.

As I sat around thinking about all the Pink activities that will take place over the next 31 days, I glanced at a piece of artwork that my son had designed for my “Wrappednpink Breast Cancer Awareness Organization.”  The drawing was a lady dancing to sweet silent melodies within a world of pink ribbons.

It seems just like yesterday, that I began to dance to that same silent tune.  But it wasn’t, it was over 28 years ago and I was just  23 years old and a mother of three. I had discovered a little, itty, bitty, bump, lump or some type of thing on my upper left breast which caused lots of fear and confusion for me.  I scheduled a visit with my doctor but, after he suggested that I return to his office for some tests involving needles, I decided not to seek any other medical attention and left the doctor’s office hoping the bump would just go away on its own.  But, it didn’t and I left from that office with a story to tell.

After a year of staying away from my doctor, my mother saw the bump and made me set an appointment to see him. He asked me so many questions about my health and why I had waited so long to return. Truthfully, I admitted that I was afraid and lacked the faith and hope to see me through.  As my doctor continued to ask questions and portray somber gestures upon his face, I knew something was wrong. That little, itty, bitty bump, was now a full size lump. But, I wouldn’t have imagined in a million years that my doc would tell me that I had breast cancer.  Not only was I informed of this horrible news, but I was also told that he did not expect me to survive a year.

This news was more than I could bare, it was one of the most life draining days of my life.  I cried, I thought about the possibilities of being sick, losing my hair and my breast, but most of all I thought about if I would die.  I was afraid and scared out of my mind.  I thought about leaving my children behind and how my mom’s heart would not be able to take the pain of losing her daughter.  I didn’t know what to do and yet again I had to make some big decisions on which treatments, surgeries and options I would chose. I was only 23 years old and I had put myself in a position to have to make life or death decisions.

That experience caused me to dig deeper in my Faith and Trust in God with all of my heart and soul.  I prayed and left that big enormous problem in the hands of God and believed without a doubt, that I was healed and that God had given me a second chance at life.  Because of my mindset to believe and have faith in God and the medical team which He placed in my life, I believe without a doubt that I am here today to help others in life. Over the past 28 years of my life, I developed strategic plans and goals by the Grace of God to make it through.  But, I knew that I had work to do and that God wanted to use me in many ways to help others create their ideal lives beyond their struggles.

I have been gifted with the ability to listen, care, motivate, inspire, empower and guide.  Today, I have taken what some would call the “Death Sentence” and turned it into a passion to to help other women and men live beyond their fear of whatever it may be; health, lack of confidence, lack of motivation, lack of determination…etc.

I am thankful.  I am a published author/creative writer, speaker and life coach seeking to fulfill my purpose in life as I journey through a world of hopeful possibilities.
